Susan Graef [ resume ]
Susan Graef is an editor and filmmaker based in New York City. Graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Pratt Institute in 1984, Susan began her career working on independent film projects of her own, “Catwalk” (Silver Award Houston International Film Festival), and those of her peers, Christine Vachon’s “Days are Numbered” (Art Director), and Steve Buscemi and Mark Boone Jr’s, short film “Checkmate” (Editor).
She began her work in feature films as an apprentice Editor on the now legendary “Ishtar” directed by Elaine May and also served as Assistant Editor on such films as “Fresh”, “Scent of A Woman”, and “The Music of Chance”.
As Editor, Susan has worked on a number of successful independent feature films that include, “My Life’s In Turnaround” directed by Eric Schaeffer and Donal Ward (Arrow Entertainment/1994), “The Incredibly True Adventure of Two Girls in Love” directed by Maria Maggenti (Fine Line Features/1995), “If Lucy Fell” directed by Eric Schaeffer (Tristar/1996), Edward Burn’s “She’s The One” (Fox Searchlight/1997), and “Saving Face” directed by Alice Wu (Sony Classics/ 2004).
Susan has also worked on a variety of TV series such as the one hour episodic comedy “Ed” (NBC-two seasons), “Love Monkey” (CBS), “The First 48” and “Sensing Murder” for Granada USA.
Her most recent project “Puccini for Beginners” (Indigent/Strand Releasing 2007) is the seventeenth feature that Susan has edited and the second one to be in competition at Sundance. It opened February 2007 to favorable reviews from the New York Times and the L.A. Times.
She is currently editing “The Golden Boys ” a romantic comedy set in Cape Cod, starring David Carradine, Bruce Dern, Rip Torn with supporting roles by Mariel Hemingway, Charles Durning, and John Savage.
