Stephen became a DP the old fashioned way – he came up through the Camera Dept., serving an apprenticeship in the time honored tradition of the Studio system. Stephen moved to New York in 1991 to begin his film career, leaving his successful still photography practice in Philadelphia. He spent the next 2 years learning the craft of camera assisting and networking. Stephen was inducted into the International Cinematographer’s Guild in 1993. The next few years were spent working on projects ranging in budget from 1 million to 80 million. During that time, Stephen was fortunate to work under some of the industry’s top Cinematographers –Tom Sigel, ASC; Matt Leonetti, ASC, Chuck Minsky, ASC and Ken Kelsch, ASC.
Stephen began his shooting career in 2000, garnering some awards early on, including the Milos Forman Award, Ralph Lauren Shorts Festival and Best Independent Picture, PBS. His cinematography forBesotted was praised by New York Times Chief Movie Critic, Elvis Mitchell. Stephen has 12 feature credits to date, including his 2nd Unit work on Lions Gate Films’ Lord of War, directed by Andrew Niccol. His features have aired on major networks and have been distributed by Showtime Network (Shelter Island) and Warner Bros’ Xenon Pictures (Funny Valentine). His last picture, BuzzKill, featuring actors Krysten Ritter and Darrell Hammond has signed with Lantern Lane Entertainment for Domestic and International distribution. Stephen
