Dejan Georgevich, A.S.C. [ resume ]
“Perhaps it all started when I struggled to carry a 16mm Bell & Howell film projector half my size down the hallways of Hillside elementary school,” says cinematographer Dejan Georgevich. “The thrill and power of the illuminated image on a giant screen captivating several hundred spellbound kids was the start of my lifelong journey into the world of cinema.”
Recent credits include CBS/Paramount Television series, “3LBS.”, staring Stanley Tucci and Cynthia Nixon, NBC/Sony Pictures Television, “The Book of Daniel” with Aidan Quinn and Ellen Burstyn, and PBS television pilot, “Cop Shop” featuring an ensemble of actors including Richard Dreyfuss, Rita Moreno, Rosie Perez and Blair Brown. The production of “Cop Shop” recalls the live dramas of the PLAYHOUSE 90 golden age era of television. Theatrical credits include the black comedy horror, “Satan’s Little Helper”, an official selection for the 2004 Tribeca Film Festival starring Amanda Plummer, “The Beatle Fan”, an official selection for the 2002 Tribeca Film Festival featuring actor, Peter Stormare, and “Love Thy Neighbor” with Roy Scheider, Wallace Shawn and Scott Wolf. Georgevich’s Director of Photography work includes an eclectic mix of television series productions (35mm & HD), features, commercials and documentaries. He completed a season as Director of Photography on the CBS series, “The Education of Max Bickford”, starring Academy Award-winning actors, Richard Dreyfuss , Marcia Gay Harden, and Eli Wallach. Other television series work includes “Hope & Faith”, “Blind Justice”, “Ed” and “Now and Again”.
In the past several years Georgevich’s work has run the gamut of styles – including creating complex live-action and special effects work for the science-fiction CBS series “Now and Again” and aesthetic beauty for independent feature films including “Follow Me Outside” and the critically-acclaimed “Crossing Fields”, which won the 1997 Hamptons International Film Festival Best Picture Award.
Georgevich has also helmed the visuals on high-profile documentaries including the 2007 PBS special, “A Wayfarer’s Journey: Listening to Mahler”, and the TV pilot, “Adoption” shot in Romania for producer Robert Halmi Jr., Hallmark Channel. In 1995, he filmed the Emmy award-winning documentary film, “Arthur Ashe: Citizen of the World”, an HBO production shot in part on location in South Africa with Nelson Mandela. He recently completed filming in El Salvador, South Africa and Indonesia for the World Wildlife Fund.
Georgevich is considered one of the leading DPs working in the HD format in feature and televison productions. His recent production of “3LBs.” was shot with Panavision’s Genesis cameras. He has served on many industry-sponsored discussion panels and has been published in leading cinematography publications, sharing his insights and experiences working in the HD digital medium. Along with his Gold Hugo Award from the Chicago Film Festival, he has received more than 20 other awards, including the Cine Gold Eagle, Clio, Gold Tellys, ITVA Monitor Awards and Gold medals from the International Film & TV Festival of New York and the Houston Film Festival. His film/commercial “MTA Progress in Motion” received over 12 awards, recognizing its ground-breaking visual style.
Georgevich’s work includes nearly 1,000 commercials as well as numerous corporate productions for major clients such as AT&T, Avon, American Cyanamid, Liz Claiborne, Chrysler Jeep-Eagle, HBO, Showtime Networks, Lucent Technologies, Pfizer, Toyota, Nissan, Honda and Hallmark Entertainment.
He holds a Masters in Fine Arts from the NYU Tisch School of the Arts Graduate Institute of Film, and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Denver. He is a member of the American Society of Cinematographers (ASC), International Cinematographers Guild, Local 600 I.A.T.S.E. and the Directors Guild of America. Also, he is a professor at the School of Visual Arts (New York) in advanced film/digital production, and he is a frequent guest lecturer at universities and professional film and photography organizations.
