Originally from Switzerland, Andrea Seidel earned a BA from International Mercantile College, a business college located in Zurich. Soon after she chose to combine her passion for costumes and culture by traveling to foreign countries exploring regional arts and crafts. She settled in Miami to study fashion design at The Miami University of Art & Design. During her time in Miami, Andrea worked professionally as a styling assistant for various media production companies. She also worked as a consultant.
After relocating to New York, she had the opportunity to work at Parsons-Meares, a large costume construction shop specializing in character costumes for shows, such as Broadway’s 42nd Street, The Lion King, Disney On Ice, Ringling Bros. and Barnum Bailey Circus. Shortly after, Andrea was hired as Sample Maker at Donna Karan Studio, where she mastered the art of fine tailoring. She worked as first-hand to various drapers before she moved on to pursue a career as freelance costume designer.
In 2002 Andrea worked as costume designer on more than twenty independent media projects. A WWII short film titled Gravity, which received awards from several national and international Film Festivals. She worked as production designer on Bad Behavior, which claimed the Viewers' Voice Award at the Cinequest Film Festival. Andrea’s work in TV includes Black History Month/Hip-Hop TV Showcase for“The N”/Nickelodeon, FilmFakers episode 1:Croc Park for Reality TV/AMCand Little Red Man for Granada Media.
In addition to her own costuming, Andrea works as an individual contractor, fabricating costumes and creatures with no limit to the imagination. She also designed and created a bear costume for The Broadway Bears V a non-profit AIDS fundraising event that was auctioned to raise much needed funds.
